Consultations Success at Olympus Jr. Hi A series of private interviews, scheduled to last approximately three minutes each, is being held by the Parent - Teachers Associa-tion of Olympus Jr. High School for the purpose primarily of as-certaining if parents really have a sufficient problems pertaining to their children's school life. ! If such a problem is found to exist, the parents are advised to i make an appointment with the j teacher of their child during her free period, at which time the problem can be taken in full and nalyzed. On the evening of Thursday, November 7, the parents with names beginning with "A" thru !"G" were interviewed. On Wednesday, November 13th, those parents with names begin-ning with the letters "H" through "0" were interviewed, and on ; Tuesday, Nov. 19, thofe whose names begin with the letters "0" through "Z" will complete the se-ries of consultations. It is hoped by the PTA that this method will bring into focus such major problems as the parents and teachers may not have been in close touch with up to this ime. According to Mrs. Kay Kackett, publicity director of the Olympus PTA, attendance at these consul-tations has been extraordinarily jgood. Leader Gives Church Lectures Kenneth Piatt, member of the Board of Elders of the First Pres-byterian Church, has been giving; ia series of lectures to the newly : organized Cottonwood Presbyteri-an Church, on the subject "Salva-tion To Everyone That Believeth." On Sunday, Nov. 10, he de--j livered the third in the series and spoke on the subject, "The Christian Challenge, Conviction vs Tolerance." On Oct. 27, his first subject was entitled "Were You There?" and the second lecture, on November 3 was "I Will Build My Church." Following Sunday's lecture are two more, one to be given on Nov. 17 on the subject "What Is The Church . . . Instrument of Authority or of Salvation?" and on Nov. 24 on the subject "The Christian Obligation." Members and their friends are urged to attend these lectures, to be held at the regular Sunday Morning Worship, at 11 o'clock. Regular services include Sun-day School for both children and adults at 9:30 a.m., Morning Wor-ship at 11 a.m. each Sunday, held at the Cottonwood Lion's Club building, at 595 South Highland Drive. On the first Monday of each month, the Women's Circle meets in the homes of various members. The first Friday of each month, the Mariners (a young couples' social group-- meets at the Lion's Club Bldg. at 6 p.m. Every Tues-day evening at 7:30 there is a Choir rehearsal at 1880 Meadow Drive. With so wide and diversified a program, the future of this new organization looks fair to be a bright one. Before you plan a trip on winter highways, check road conditions with highway authorities. American Cancer Society holds Local Confab According to a report from Mrs. Blanche Richards, 45S0 Holladay Blvd. who is chairman of n Program of the local Can-cer Relief Society, the convention of the American Cancer Society, jheld on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Hotel Utah was an extremely in-teresting and educational one. In addition to the fine array of speakers, those attending were shown a "sneak preview" of a film, entitled "Time and Two Wo-men," which brought forward sharply the need of immediate action in the cure and control of this most dreaded of diseases. The theme of the convention was the "Study of Cytology, the Relation of the Individual Cells to Cancer." Brought forward was the news that a new method of detection has been developed by Dr. George Papanicolaou, well known special-ist in the field of malignancy. This is a perfected smear test whereby the presence "of cancer cells can be detected before the onset of the disease has appear-ed. It is even possible by this test to locate the malignancy. The film, mentioned above, will not be released for public viewing until sufficient doctors have been trained in Cytology to take care of . and test the patients who will be requesting these tests. Under the direction of Wallace Toronto, executive secretary of the Utah branch of the Society, the convention opened at 8:30 a.m. through a day of films and lec-tures, to climax with a banquet at 6:30 on the Roof Garden. Among the eminent doctors lec-turing to those in attendance were Dr. Cyril T. Fullmer, head of the Cytology laboratories at the Holy Cross Hospital, Dr. E. G. Hol-stro- Dr. Irving Ershler, Dr. J. H. Jones and Dr. Wallace F. Brooke. An interesting side of the con--1 vention was the outlining of the service policies and procedures of the organization, under the dir-ection of Mrs. Audrin Pextin. Am-ong these is the free cancer de-tection clinic, held every third Wednesday of each month at the Cancer Headquarters at 176 al Hall Ave. The best cancer specialists are called in for these clinics and anyone is entitled to to avail tremselves of this serv-ice. Simply go in and register and you will be checked for" an indica-tion of cancer. The educational program of the society, under the direction of Mrs. Blanche Richards is working toward a program of education as wide-sprea- d as is possible. Attending were many members, some from the Salt Lake Club and several pros- - pective members. The program was based on the theme of "Living." Included on the program was a talk entitled "Memories," given by Delia Judy; one on the topic "My Favorite Hobby," "My Husband" by Burva Hughes and "What Toastmistress Means To Me," by Dorothy Ro-ar- k. After the program, minute ta-ble topics were presented, follow-ed by a delicious chicken lunch-eon. Decorations were in the fall motif, and place cards carried out the Thanksgiving theme. Service Men Army Pfc. Daniel W. Myrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus L. Myrick, 6418 South 23rd East, re-cently was named Soldier of the Month for the 29th Armored In-fantry Battalion in Germany. An automatic rifleman in the battalion's company A. Myrick was selected for his soldierly ce, knowledge of duties and military courtesy. Myrick entered the Army in No-vember 1956 and was last stal-l tioned at Fort Hood, Texas. Snowfalls are welcome, but not falls on snow or ice. Watch out jfor pedestrians.
