Elks To Host Annual Youth Awards Banquet Each year, in early May, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2442 in West Bountiful, participates with the Grand Lodge of Elks and thousands of elks lodges across the U.S. in observing Elks National Youth Week. EACH YEAR, beginning May 1 , governors of each state and mayors of each city are asked to proclaim the first week in May as Elks National Youth Week. During this week, special awards ceremonies, cere-monies, dances, speakers and programs are arranged to appropriately pay tribute to the American boys and girls of our country. This year, on May 12, to keep in step with the spirit elk-dom, elk-dom, the Bountiful Elks Lodge will hold its annual youth awards banquet and will again award many young Americans of Davis County with scholarship scholar-ship opportunities, savings bonds and gifts. Senior councilors, principals princip-als of high schools, city coun-cilmen coun-cilmen and mayors of south Davis County have been invited in-vited to attend. Simone Goed, exchange student attending Bountiful High, will speak. IN ACCORDANCE with Pres. Reagan's call for more volunteerism, the Bountiful Elks will strive to enlarge its youth program. Among these programs are sponsorship of little league teams, a basketball basket-ball free throw contest, a student stu-dent of the month program, drug abuse education, an essay contest and the most valuable student contest. In the latter two contests, l' million dollars dol-lars in scholarships will be awarded nationwide. |
