Show PLANS FOR GOOD ROAD DRAG one shown in illustration Is adapted for localities where lumber Is plentiful prepared by the united states department of agriculture the design for a road drug drag shown in n the illustration is adapted for localities cali ties in which sawed lumber may be readily obtained in this design the runners tire are made of 2 or inch boards 10 inches wide and from 6 to 9 feet long re enforced with other 2 inch boards of the same length but only 6 inches in width if more convenient veni ent however 4 inch run runners without re rc e enforcing boards may be readily substituted for those shown the method of framing the runners together is a modification of that used h r I 1 detail drawing showing typical construction st of road drag built of sawed Lu dunber Lun ber in connection with the splitlog split log type of drag in this case cas e only two of the cross braces bra es have their ends fitted into auger holes like rungs in fi fastening the draw chain to a lumber drag it is usually aidis able to run both ends of the chali chah through holes in the front runner or elv else make the connections by mean me inar ot of eye or hook bolts as shown the reason for this Is that the sawed bross ros traces braces are seldom sufficiently strong to withstand the pull of the chain chaid when hen it is 15 looped over them as Is fre done when round timber cross pieces jire are used it if straight grained pieces are used for the crosspieces cross pieces however there Is no apparent reason why one end of the chain might not be connected by looping it around the 2 inch square crosspiece iros near the cutting end |
