Show Rural Life Confab Draws Crowd Of 630 At Altamont (Crowded out last week) I The Rural Life and Education conference, the second . to be 'held in Duchesne County, was' iheld Friday, March 13, at the Altamont High School, drawing a huge crowd of approximately 600 people. In summing up the full-day activity of the conference it could be termed, "Highly successful," suc-cessful," with each session functioning func-tioning according to schedule and With many useful and practical prac-tical ideas and suggestions evolving evol-ving from each. Supt. Dean C. Christensen and Lawrell Jensen, co-chairmen, are deserving of the highest praise for the organization of the con ference which drew speakers, summarizers, group leaders and group chairmen from all overi the state. Guest speaker at the morning general session was Dr. Le-I Grande Noble from the U.S.A. C who gave a powerful address on Faith in One's Self, Faith in Work, and Faith in God. Group summarizer at the afternoon af-ternoon meeting was Dr. E. A. Jacobsen from the U.S.A.C., who capably summarized the points formerly given by each of the six group leaders. Alvin Carpenter, Floyd Ross, A. P. Hadlock, Reed Morrill, Roy Adams Ad-ams and Rowan Stutz. Problems evolving from the group discussions resulted in the appointment of committees from most of the groups to investigate the various problems and report their findings at the next rural conference next year. Climaxing the eventful day was the presentation of a musical musi-cal and dancing program by the "Brigham Young University Interational Club at 8:00 p.m. Highlights of the day were the musical numbers, including several selections by the Duchesne Du-chesne High School mixed chorus, chor-us, under the direction of Lloyd N. Beckstead; vocal numbers, by the Altamon High School chorus, directed by Afton Smith-son; Smith-son; and the evening band concert con-cert by the Altamont High School band, with Lorin Allred directing. The co-chairmen, committee chairmen, group leaders, group chairmen, summarizers, consultants consul-tants and all others who assisted in making' the Rural Life Conference Con-ference such a huge success, should be commended highly, and urged to - continue this annual, an-nual, event which makes for better bet-ter Rural Living. |
