Show Jot The First . . . . An inference made last week in this newspaper that Dillon S. Meyers, commissioner of Indian Affairs for the United States, was the first man holding this office to visit the Ute Tribe in the Uintah Basin, was challenged chal-lenged by William Preece, who reported that as far back as 1908 Commissioner Valentine was here, and again in 1938 Commissioner Wright made a visit to the Basin. Mr. Preece, who recently retired re-tired from . the . Indian Service, j reported that his father, William Preece, Sr., made a trip to Price by team and buggy to transport Mr. Valentine to the Basin this was in 1908. We appreciate this bit of interesting in-teresting historical data as reported re-ported by Mr. Preece. |
