Show 559 Polio Cases Reported In Utah For 1951 Three state polio . workers were in attendance at the special meeting held last Saturday night at the Roosevelt City Building, including Dr. Creed Haymond, state fund-raising . director; S. Bruce Hanks, state representative representa-tive for Utah and Nevada on the-National Foundation; and Mrs. Edmund T. Evans, adviser of women's activities. According- to Mrs. Harold Dill-man, Dill-man, county director for the March of Dimes, some very important im-portant data on polio cases and funds was presented by these representatives, who' related that there had been 559 reported cases of polio in Utah in 1951, meaning that Utah leads the nation in polio cases, . with Colorado Col-orado a close second. The Polio. Foundation is now $6 million -in -debt, but in spite of this, they, still will follow through their pledge to every person in America- who contracts con-tracts the dread disease. Any person, regardless of his financial finan-cial status, will be cared for. Reports reveal that 74.1 of every penny taken in for polio funds is spent on patient care, and 15.4 is spent on research and professional training of people peo-ple to care for patients. One of the speakers in attendance attend-ance pointed out that during the polio drive last year, one county in Utah contributed onlv $200 to the national fund, and during the recent polio outbreak, out-break, that county has received $10,000 back. Their contribution amounted to only 5c per person in that county. Mothers March on Polio all over the nation is scheduled for January 31 from 6:30 to' 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Anthon Christensen, city chairman for Roosevelt, announces an-nounces that all who helped in the march last year will be contacted con-tacted to do so again. She states that if you are asked to participate, you will be one of 20,000 mothers in Utah assisting in the campaign. Governor J. Bracken Lee will proclaim this hour as polio hour, and it is expected that Mayor Homer P. Edwards will also proclaim it as such in Roosevelt. |
