Show Utah's Best Farmers ..... Roosevelt Y F Chapter Wins State's Top Honor It was a distinct honor for the Roosevelt chapter, Utah Young Farmers Assn., to be judged the best in the Uintah Basin, but to win top honors in the state ; among a broad field of entries is a climax of a year of careful planning and hard work that pays off to all who maintain membership in the local chapter. chap-ter. Announcement of Roosevelt as the outstanding chapter in Utah followed shortly the report that the judges had selected Lynn Torgensen, 33 - year - old dairy farmer from Sigurd, Sevier county, as Utah's young farmer of the year. A member of the Richfield chapter, Mr. Torgensen Torgen-sen gained his recognition for his farming activities in operation opera-tion of a 110-acre dairy farm located at Sigurd. Competing in this field from the Uintah Basin was Elmer Yergensen, Myton dairy farmer, who last week was announced as the Basin's best farmer for 1950. He is a member of the Roosevelt chapter. On hand to accept the coveted honor for his chapter was Ted A. Phillips, president of the Roosevelt chapter, which, along with Yergensen, was recognized as tops in the Uintah Basin contest held at the Roosevelt high school on Feb. 3. The Utah convention of Young Farmers was held at the Newhouse hotel on Feb. 9-10, and, in addition to Mr. Phillips and his wife, was attended by the following from this area: Mr. and Mrs. Fay Mecham, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Haueter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wilkerson. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nielsen, Arlo Blan-chard, Blan-chard, James Chidester, Richard Spencer, Elmer Yergensen and Jack Giles. Also attending were three supervisors, Kenneth Zirker, advisor to the Roosevelt chapter, Tal Wardle and James Lewis. |
