Show 215 Scout Leaders Meet In First University Class Two hundred and fifteen Scout-ers Scout-ers of the Uintah Basin participated participat-ed last Friday, Nov. 4, in the opening open-ing session of the University of Scouting. The second of six sessions ses-sions will get underway tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Roosevelt Jr. High School. Adult Scout leaders of the Uintah Uin-tah Basin who were unable to make the opening session are urged to join the group for Friday's session, reports James E. Bacon, University of Scouting committee chairman. Thirty Scouters, largely den mothers, enrolled in the Cub Scout course directed by Jack Dexter of Vernal. Forty scouters were listed in the Boy Scouting course, instructed in-structed by Rowan C. Stutz. Of the 40 some 22 are scoutmasters. Exploring Course A. Louis Fife reported 32 registered regis-tered for the Exploring course. "This is over twice as many as I had anticipated," stated Mr. Fife. Guide and Trekker teachers numbering num-bering 37 were present for the Guide Patrol course led by J. Fer-ron Fer-ron Hacking. Unit committeemen totaling 38 participated in the Unit Committee course headed by Elwood Carter, Tabiona, and Elvin Barker, Du-(Continued Du-(Continued on Back Page) 215 SCOUT LEADERS . . . (Continued from page one) Six Scouts, five of ' them from Myton Troop 253, received Star badges. From Myton were: Gary Young, Wayne Martin, Robert Duke, Willard Mathison and La Von Edwards. DeLoy Squire, Troop 252 also received his Star badge. Kenneth Ken-neth Taylor, Ronald Giles and Floyd Nielsen of Myton Troop 253, were made First Class Scouts. Merrill Rasmussen, Ballard-Troop 252 also received his First Class badge. Under the direction of their Guide Patrol Primary teachers, Gary LaRose and Kelley Crozier of Neola Troop 270, and John All-red, All-red, Roosevelt Troop 251, were made Second Class Scouts. Other boys to receive their Second Class rank included: LaMar Winn, Kenny Ken-ny Ross, Merlyn Perry, LaVern Young, and Curtis Will of Myton, Troop, 253. Lucky Lee Ross of Ballard, Bal-lard, Troop 252 received his Second Sec-ond Class also. Von Haslem, scoutmaster of Ballard, Troop 252, presented den chief chords to Merrill Rasmussen and Deloy Squire. A total of 42 merit badges were given by the Court of Honor. Eight were earned by Scouts of Troop 750: Bill Hall, marksmanship; Dale Hanson, camping; Brent Hutchings, nature, soil and water conservation, conserva-tion, and citizenship in the community; com-munity; Scott Murdock for safety and first aid; and Steve Bellon in camping. Explorers receiving merit badges were: Gorden Bascom, in public speaking; Robert Hacking, for swimming; Douglas Labrum, in cooking, hiking and reading; and David Dickerson, for life saving, nature, physical fitness, gardening, hiking, and citizenship in the nation. na-tion. From Ballard, Troop 252, three boys received merit badges: DeLoy Squire, woodwork, camping, and citizenship in the home; Allan Collins,' Col-lins,' woodwork, and Merrill Rasmussen, Ras-mussen, woodworking and camping. camp-ing. Seventeen merit badges went to Scouts of Myton, Troop 253: Newell, New-ell, Richens, citizenship in the home;. Willard Mathisen, public speaking, hiking, first aid, farm records and bookkeeping; Buddy Holgate, rabbit raising, and citizenship citizen-ship in the home; Gary Young, first aid, hiking, and horsemanship; Theo Anderson, first aid; Floyd Nielsen, dairying; Bert Rennis, home repairs; Robert Duke, citizenship citizen-ship in the home, first aid, and horsemanship; and Kenneth Taylor, Tay-lor, hiking. District Board of Review for November will be held November 23 at 8 p.m. at the Jr. High School Seminary building, reports Sharon Cummings, District Advancement chairman. DeVon Andrus, new member of the District Advancement .committee, .commit-tee, gave the inspirational talk, "Duty to Country."
