Show s Inspired Mother Averts i;ear Icebox Tragedy 2-Year-OId Baby Crawls Into, Apartment Fridge Much has been said during the past of the danger of iceboxes and children Warnings have been frequent fre-quent to people to make sure old discarded iceboxes have the locks broken off, or that the doors be wired shut so they would not become be-come death traps for little children. Last Friday the Presley Timothy home almost suffered a tragedy when their 2-year-old baby. LeAnn, crawled into a refrigerator in a basement apartment. Had not Mrs. Timothy unconsciously opened the door as a hunt was underway for LeAnn who had turned up missing, another casualty would have been added to the list of children who had suffocated in iceboxes. According to Mrs. Timothy, she had gone to the basement of their new home to do some work in an apartment they were getting ready to rent, and had taken her two children, LeAnn and Lyle, who is four, with her. She said the children had been playing with the refrigerator and had taken some of the shelves out, but when Mrs. Timothy asked them to return the shelves to the fridge, she assumed they had. Then not hearing any more from the kiddies, Mrs. Timothy Tim-othy thought they had gone upstairs up-stairs to play. Shortly after, Mrs. Timothy's sister, who was assisting her up stairs, reported that Lyle was playing play-ing across the street, but she couldn't see LeAnn. About this time Mrs. Timothy heard LeAnn faintly call for Lyle. She thinking the call came from outside, a search upstairs and around the house, inside and out, was conducted con-ducted for the baby. A search was then made of the cabinets both in the basement and upstairs and under un-der the beds, without success. Another Power "It must have been another power pow-er that inspired me to remain in the kitchen of the basement apartment, apart-ment, and caused me to unconsciously uncon-sciously walk over to the refrigerator refriger-ator and open the door, because I was stunned when I saw my baby lying very still in the refrigerator, refrig-erator, it being the fartherest thing from my mind that she would be in there," Mrs. Timothy said. There is little doubt in the mind of Mrs. Timothy that had she left (Continued on Back Page) INSPIRED MOTHER . . . (continued .from page 1) the basement kitchen to assist in the search for LeAnn, the baby would have been dead when she would have been discovered in the icebox. She is sure had the door been left shut two or three more minutes, it would have been too late. It was only a brief moment after af-ter LeAnn had been pulled from the icebox, that she recovered, none the worse from a cold bed she had had for approximately twenty minutes. Another deduction is that had the refrigerator not been connected, con-nected, the baby could not have lived in her prison as long as she had with it being cold. |
