Show Porchlight Parade .... Mothers' March On Polio Set For Friday, 6 to 7 p.m. Don't be alarmed if you hear polio sirens and church bells at" 6 o'clock the night of Friday, Jan. 29. It won't be warning of an impending enemy, attack. It will, instead, be the signal that the cityjwide Mothers' March on Polio is about to swing1 into, action, with Mrs. Louis Taylor as chairman of the March. "The sirens and bells are being be-ing sounded to remind housewives house-wives to light their porch lamps or put , a light in their front windows to tell the world they"1 want to help in the fight against polio by giving to' the March of Dimes. " Between 6 and 7 o'clock, Mothers from every block, will call at all homes in the city. We hope that everyone will donate to the drive on the night of the March, because it will be the final appeal of the 1954 March of Dimes. Police and fire departments, which always have assisted community enterprises, have of. fered to give the Mothers' March an enthusiastic send-off by sounding the marching signal. sig-nal. Police officers have been detailed de-tailed to safeguard transport of polio funds from designated collecting col-lecting stations to a central depository. de-pository. If no one calls for your contribution, con-tribution, telephone Roosevelt City Hall. Select your Polio Mother With your 500 donation to a Marching Mother, you may cast a ballot in the selection of your Polio Mother. This is an honorary honor-ary title to be bestowed by the mayor upon an outstanding Mother of the community, not necessarily one with a polio child. iSeven local civic clubs have chosen the following Mothers to represent their club: Mrs. Gordon Gor-don Harmston, B.P.W.; Mrs. John Swenson, Lions; Mrs. Kirk Benson, American Legion; Mrs. Ken Aycock, Legion Auxiliary; Mrs. Presley Timothy, Kiwanis; Mrs. Parley Rawlings, Culture Club; Mrs. Olen (Earl) Timothy, Socialette. A dozen red roses will be presented to the "Polio Queen" by Mayor Paul Murphy at the close of the Porchlight Parade. The presentation will be made at the Union and Duchesne basketball bas-ketball game at half time. |
