Show Brazilian Sees Stock Show At Altamont MT. Emmons, Duchesne county coun-ty The Moon Lake F F A third annual livestock show, held at Altamont high school for the county Saturday, drew crowds from throughout Uintah basin. J. M. DeMcllo, Areia, Paraiba, Brazil, Bra-zil, who is studying American agriculture for the Brazilian government, was an observer. Evaluating the show cattle as "prime", Lyman H. Rich, extension exten-sion dairyman at the U S A C, said Saturday that a number of the fat stock will be exhibited at Salt Lake City in June. Dairy cattle exhibited at the show were fine producers with one cow giving over 400 pounds of butterfat yearly and another over 500 pounds per year. Willard Mecham, vocational agriculture teacher, was super visor of tne livestocK snow. Judges included Mr. Rich; Dr. Loren E. Harris, animal nutritionist nutri-tionist at the U S A C, and Mar-den Mar-den Broadbcnt, county agent. Judging exhibits was the feature fea-ture of the day with the following follow-ing results: Beef division, class A fat calves, grand champion owned by Neldon Johansen, Boneta; reserve re-serve champion, Stanley Field-sted, Field-sted, Boneta, and third place, Glendon Hamberg, Mt. Emmons. Class B. under 650 pounds 1st, Harry Fieldsted, Boneta; second, Marion Iorg, Upalco; third, Chad Evans, Boneta; fourth, Cecil Han-berg, Han-berg, Mt. Emmons, 650-680 pounds First, Neldon Johansen, Boneta; second, Stanley Fieldsted, Field-sted, Boneta; third, Barney Sessions, Ses-sions, Whiterocks; fourth, Wayne Haslem, Roosevelt. 850 pounds and up First Glendon Hanberg, Mt. Emmons; second, Joe Murray, Mur-ray, Vernal; third, Johnnie Rowley, Row-ley, Mt. Home; fourth, Lee Carroll, Car-roll, Altonah. Breeding beef, bulls over 1 year old First W. W. McConkie, Roosevelt; second, Forest Goodrich, Tridell; third, Jess Birtcher, Roosevelt and Ber-tus Ber-tus McConkie, Vernal. The best dairy exhibit was made by Delmar Mecham, Mt. Emmons, 65 points and Hartman and Sons, Mt. Emmons, 54 points. Holstein cows, one year and . over Delmar Mecham, who won the first four prizes and first and : second for heifers under 1 year of age. Milan Rogers, Upalco, first and John Ping, Mt. Emmons, second, sec-ond, took honors for bulls of all ages. For Shorthorn cows, 1 year and over Hartman and Sons. Mt. Emmons, won both first and second prizes. They also won first, second and third for heifers under one year and first for bulls of all ages. Floyd Hartman, Mt. Emmons, won second for bulls of all ages. Floyd Hartman also won first for aged sows and second, third and fourth for breeding gilts. Vernon K. Brummett, Duchesne won first for breeding gilts. All the sheep shown were suf-folks. suf-folks. Bill Fieldsted took a blue ribbon for breeding ewes, blue and a red ribbon for breeding ewe lambs. Winners in fitting and showing show-ing beef cattle were Tom Dennis, Myton, first; Chris Kavras, Altonah, Al-tonah, second; Stanley Fieldsted of Boneta third, and Neldon Johansen, Boneta, fourth. Fitting and showing dairy cattle cat-tle winners were Bruce Hartman, Hart-man, first; Delmar Mecham, second sec-ond and fourth and Floyd Hartman, Hart-man, third, all of Mt. Emmons. |
