Show Rough Riders Win Hairline Decision In Duchesne Game THE Roosevelt Roughriders made the pre-season prediction of their being a strong team come true last Friday, but only by a shoestring defeat of a tough, stubborn Duchesne team, in an extra period, by a score of 39-37. In one of the official openers of District 5 league play, the (Riders and Eagles met on the Roosevelt elementary school gym floor. The Eagles set the pace I in the first few minutes of play, and piled up a slim lead to end the quarter; but trailed , at the half 15-13. The second half saw the Eagles moving in with new fire, sparked by Tom Mickelson and Bob Rife. Rife lead off with the first tally that tied up the score. Mickelson Mickel-son followed suit to put the Eagles out in front, and subsequent subse-quent scoring by Duchesne saw them leading the Riders by 5 points at the close of the third stanza. In the final period the things looked rough for Roosevelt, but in the closing minutes of play McLea dropped one through the hoop to set the score at 33-31, and with ten seconds to go Don Snyder whipped one against the backboard and through the strings to tie the teams at 33-33. With an extra frame called, Roosevelt bagged three to boost its stock to 39 while holding" Duchesne Du-chesne to 37. f i THE game was a stern win for Roosevelt and heartbreaking defeat de-feat for Duchesne. It served notice no-tice on last year's district champs that things were going to be tough if the Rough Riders are to repeat the performance of a year ago. - - " Throughout the game Roosevelt Roos-evelt Coach Clint Nelson made ample use of substitutes, who are given a lion's share of the credit for pulling the game out of the fire. Tom Mickelson, Duchesne center, cen-ter, was high point man with 15 tallys to his credit. Don Snyder topped the list for Roosevelt with ten, sharing honors with Rife, the Eagle forward.
