Show Something; For The Kids Growing youngsters need recreation; rec-reation; a systematic method for releasing pent up energy. Without With-out such recreation youngsters are apt to turn to vandalism, and unconsciously, become enemies of society. Mayor George H. Harrison, a group of parents and several youngsters discussed this point in a meeting on Tuesday, and when the suggestion that a soft-ball soft-ball league be organized for regular reg-ular competitive play the youngsters young-sters voiced their approval in words and wide grins. Now the city doesn't have immediate im-mediate facilities for regular baseball, but soft-ball can be played in any vacant lot and enough en-ough enthusiasm stimulated to develop a top-notch "twilight league" right here in Roosevelt. The only thing required is an organization or-ganization to foster the league and put the teams into play. Several types of organization are feasible; Mayor Harrison suggested sug-gested the dividing of the town into sections with a team representing repre-senting each division or teams could be organized and sponsored sponsor-ed by the various business firms in town. In either case clean com-petive com-petive sport would be the result and vandalism, which has a habit of worming its way into the activities ac-tivities of youngsters who have no outlet for their high pressure energies, would be headed-off. It's only fair to the kids that we take steps to develop a good athletic program for them, and an excellent starter is a community commun-ity soft-ball league. |
