Show governor Prot protests creation of escalante monument A protest on behalf of the state against creation of the proposed escalante national monument along the colorado river in southeastern utah was sent to secretary of interior harold L ickes thursday by governor henry H blood fearing withdrawal of the land would endanger future development of the colorado river and other natural resources in that aleathe governor asked that the state be given an opportunity for a hearing that we may present our case in more detail the governor said if the interior department will not consider deferring action at least until colorado river studies aie completed by the bureau of declamation lecla mation the only other alternative of the states resources and protection of private existing valid rights within the boundaries of the proposed monument would be to put certain reservations in the presidential proclamation by which the monument would be established |
