over supply one of the incidents he related to bring out this point was that a few years ago bales of cotton were produced in the united states and sold at 22 cents a pound the following year 16 bales were produced and sold at 11 cents a pound the smaller crop outsold the other by merely because speculators had cried that there was a surplus with a regular marketing organizations such as is possible under the agricultural marketing act such a thing would not have happened said mr brown As a further incident of speculators creating the impression of over supply he referred to the work of the land 0 lakes cream cry an eastern concern in borrowing money and offering to buy at 30 cents per pound all butter on the market it was but a stroke on the part of the dairy to call the bluff of speculators who had lowered the price of butterfat from 35 to 30 cents per pound in an effort to give the impression of an over supply the market price prica was immediately raised and as the creamery expected they could not buy any butter at 30 30 cents he further stated that in 1928 four big tobacco dealers in new nev york sold all the tobacco in the united states that their barnin earnings s in 1928 were in 1929 9 in 1930 in 1931 11 referring cotran to transportation por tation costs he recalled the history of toll bridges and their eventual control by the government to relieve the public of exorbitant charges he hel recalled the british governments erection of light houses and the consequent complaint of the pirates who found their business of I 1 salvaging wrecked assels fallin falling
