Show SCHOOL boalo FOH NEXT I 1 farm bureau suggests reduction in salaries of teachers A new contract to be offered to teachers in the sevier district schools for the next term was adopted at a meeting of the board boar d of education held here monday the new contract provides that the school term terin begin and close on dates to be decided by the board of education in contrast to the contract now in use which specifies a definite length of the school term it differs also in the fact that it provides pio vides for the payment of salaries monthly while last year the payments for the eight months term were divided into nine equal payments otherwise the contract is practically the same as the one under which the teachers are now employed in reply to a letter recently sent by B C luth clerk of the school board to all teachers of the district the teachers with one exception cep tion cooperated with the board by ay iy signing the following agreement with reference to the present school term 1 I hereby agree to teach the valance balance of the present school term called for under my contract on condition that school operate eidth months and the board guarantees seven and one half months pay ay that all available revenue from rom 1931 taxes collected prior to july 1 1932 be used in the operation of the schools and that if there be insufficient revenue to pay the operating expenses for the he last two weeks or any fraction thereof then the employees of the district give free service for this period A committee of taxpayers representing the farm bureau and consisting of J F ogden henry peterson Pc terson jas P poulson claud payne parley christensen C at sorensen and J L despain appeared before the board monday stating that the purpose of their attendance at the meeting was to offer suggestions which they thought would be helpful in the operating of the schools J F ogden president of the sevier county farm bureau as spokesman of the committee presented the following suggestions first that because of the unemployment situation the board stress the employment of single ladies adies and men teachers excluding married women second that first consideration be ae given home people in tilling filling positions third that a course in agriculture be given at the north sevier high school fourth that reductions be made in school costs for next year in connection with reductions in costs that a ten per cent reduction be made in the salaries of all teachers now receiving less than a month that a 20 per cent reduction be made in the salaries of all teachers now getting to a month that a 25 per cent reduction be made in salaries of 50 to a month and that a reduction of 33 13 1 3 per cent be made in salaries of all employees who receive over a month relative to the reduction costs they hey also suggested that the board negotiate with transportation co contractors n and see if the figure for transportation cannot be reduced the committee also raised the question of whether or not the cost of insurance to the school district could be reduced through the purchase of insurance through a mutual coM company Dany among a nu number aber of minor business matters the school board decided friday to extend an offer to to the seniors of the panguitch high school which burned to the ground recently giving them the privilege of attending any high schools of the sevier district t the e rest of the term without any expense pe se in the nature of registration similar invitations have been extended by other districts to seniors of the panguitch high school to enable them to graduate this year |
