| Show BEE to TK SCHOOL COUNT WITHOUT new features axe are added and appear to work successfully the teachers of sevier school district have baa e indicated an almost unanimous response in their willingness to do everything possible to reduce the expenses of schools this year at the last meeting of the school board the superintendent was instructed to find out from the teachers if they were willing to cooperate with the board in taking the annual school census it was understood that teachers receive no extra pay for doing this and that it not be lone done on school time after presenting it to each principal the plin principal cipal was instructed to p present resent the matter to his teachers up to the present every school except siguid has reported and of the teachers represented in the leports only five declined to respond to this call if the board decided to ask them to do it the teachers of the district also v voted to join a study group this school year under the direction of the superintendent these groups will meet each term at salina richfield monroe and elsinore and discuss Over streets influencing human behavior in its relation to school problems all schools except sigurd reported on this project and only three teachers declined the invitation to join jorfi the groups this year sevier district will introduce systematic instruction in music music in in all first and second grades the state has adopted a new music program a and nd this course can now be added to these grades at very little expense it is planned to add regular music instruction in the third grade next year and on through one grade a year until the entire music program is is working in our public schools the instructors in music in junior and senior high schools have always been handicapped in in this department because local p pupils come to them with no background in music it is hoped that within a few years music will be functioning successfully in all sevier district schools anyone wanting to see happy boys is invited to visit any one of the shops in the junior high schools of the district here are boys working in tin and cold iron others in practical and ornamental leather others in wood and later courses in electricity will be added in the salina junior high some of the girls have applied for admission to the cou course arse in ornamental leather if happiness in and enthusiasm for school and a practical knowledge of a large variety of tools are worth money the shops in the junior high schools ire are w well ell worth many times their cost to the taxpayer for the first fin t time in sevier district the p platoon batoon system of instruction st it has been introduced in t the he schools the fifth and sixth grades of the richfield school operate on this plan this year both pupils and teachers are delighted with the change and at it appears that this step forward in in c education lu cation will work very successfully |
