the pep class in school and the sophomores of 25 have c certainly lived up to their reputation last friday the sophomores gave an example of their cleverness and originality b by y putting on a snappy assembly the T he assembly opened by the school singing just a song at twilight mr terry then offered the invocation miss bliss marie jensen gave her senior talk her subject being originality it contained some very good ideas and was worked out and given very successfully with her usual ability and grace miss bliss viola ogden gave a dance entitled dainty the dance was charming and was highly appreciated precia ted by all A reading was given by an oral expression students ora gledhill it was a clever reading and was vas given in a capable manner but now comes the climax a selection from terrys orchestra tho the origin I 1 mean mr terry appeared first on the scene it was mr terry in the good old days before he started his bis orchestra after much careful thinking and debating ho he finally organized a complete orchestra among the great artists wore were the gifted organist organ lat the plan piano being on strike sears sea the noted cornet and paul the charming saxophonist and the alluring trombonist played a duet duct and after two jazzy selections the baud band to our sorrow quit tor for the day while it was playing there was not a dry eye in the room students rocked back and forth holding their sides to keep them from bursting deep ha has and giggles to he hes came from all parts of the room mr martin then gave some boine announcements and the assembly was ended gertrude dean bean the sophomore president presided over the assembly K rondly rond ny an ail interesting assembly was given en monday miss aliss mabel ence opened the by singing two beautiful selections mighty like a zose rose and 1 I wish I 1 knew gertrude beane accompanied her on oil the ukulele this was new and quite a novelty invocation was offered by mr ar ogden we were vere then favored with two saxophone sax aphone solos by paul salisbury accompanied by mrs vern blomquist on the piano sir it martin gave some announcements after which we all went to out our respective dabs class rooms n 0 A last week there was much weeping and NN walling alling and gnashing 0 of f teeth among the students of tile the R H S but bill why nil 11 of this his disturbance it is easy to answer the stud students mits given their term marks the teachers were requested to mark low this term in hopes of making sonic some students work and ot of incising calsing the standard of the school cheer up tip students 0 NORTH SEVIER SEVIE 10 11 I 1 HIGH SCHOOL I 1 0 0 scrawled on tile the bulletin hoard board was the following grudge game at accod accordingly at three J cf teen the students of north sevier went nent for their wraps or lingered tor for a moment in the hall to comment on the coming game about this time principal evans appeared in the hall and almost shouted the command mand students what does this mean get to your classes every student stopped whatever lie he was doing and turned tor for well lack eack knew and recognized that voice one student humbly explained epla ined that all had understood school was to be dismissed at but mr evans explained things differently and each student went to his class expecting to be dismissed at for the game when came instead of the scholars being dismissed a student body officer came to each class and announced that there would be no game now just why that 11 grudge game was not played seems to be somewhat shrouded in mystery may next net friday be fair weather in order that north sevier may mav see that grudge game north sevier has greater prospects ot of athletic success this year than she has had in previous years the remodeling of the north church will be completed by thanksgiving this means a much improved gymnasium over that barn that was used last year there will be fewer cases of pneumonia grippe and severe colds tor for this now new gymnasium will have showers and dressing rooms installed in the basement the spectacles may not be as interesting to the public as the unclad figures that used to dart between the high school and that barn like structure called gymnasium because north sevier has has been without a gymnasium ever since it was organized sonic some fittler years ago it appreciates any movement in the direction of ath athletic letle improvement pro the students feel much encouraged about the remodeled structure which they are to use this year F r 4 though twelve and four aie out of school hours yet at the same time the school building fairly rings with melodies the source of this music at twelve is the boys glee club that group of singers is accomplishing chich in their line and although they have not as yet favored the public with any vocal numbers that does not mean that they do not intend to do so the girls glee club practices at four it has been reported that this ambitious organization will appear soon i A change lias has been made in north sevier and it seems seen I 1 s to be a very serious change according to some of the students in place of tile the old gong which used to call the scholars from their classes there has been installed a new buzzer system the original idea of having bells ring in each hall so that there would be no mistaking when it was time to quit the various classes was a brilliant one the electric bell system would have worked out ideally had not the students decided that these buzzer buzzerd s and the alar alarm ru clocks were made on the same order in fact they say gay th that at the two came from the same fact factory 0 ry the tingle of the buzzer connects itself somehow with getting up in the morning which brings back unpleasant memories can scientists change the sound of the bell or will the students learn to love lore the unmusical tingle and thus become attached to their alarm clocks the tuition contest ended last wednesday with per cent for the seniors 50 per cent for the juniors 52 per cent for the sophomores and 53 per cent tor for the freshmen it wont do to give the seniors any more praise than just to mention their per cent tor for already the reporter has been asked to be less partial to her class she b humbly makes the apology and promises to turn over a new leaf in that respect 0 a mr C ray evans and mr E R moody bloody attended the teachers executive board meeting at richfield on saturday mr evans remained in richfield this weekend week end therefore a detailed report Is impossible at this writing 0 0 although the enthusiasm tor for selling lyceum tickets was good it was not keen enough almonth classes to win the honor offered by the oka ors ers of the lyceum contract no class in school sold fifty tickets and thus none will have the honor of being entertained by that committee the entire amount collected was guirio i hundred dollars As tile the contract calls tor for ane hundred dollars the signers have decided to go out and try their luck at si selling lulng tickets it is hoped that they will have just as good or even more favorable results than the students had they undoubtedly will because the first lyceum number was a complete success this should be a means of advertising ver for tuesday nights entertainment tain ment had all tile the patrons and students of north sevier seen the first lyceum number given this season selling tickets would have been mere play everyone who did see it have no question in ili their minds as to whether their lyceum tickets are worth the money or not the nevin company lived up tip to the highest expectations tat ions they held their audience as I 1 if f by spell front from the be ginning beginning to to the end of their program and made them the beauty of that higher class music the entertainment for the evening consisted of vocal and instrumental numbers and one impersonation the nevin concert company with miss irene taylor cellist miss olive pierce violinist miss frances northam Norl ham pianist and mezzo soloist and miss ruth impersonator rendered an exquisite program at tho the close of the entertainment each left with a beam of satisfaction on his face and all await the tuesday nights program with a sort of an unexpressed joy m the second number of the lyceum course will be given tuesday nov 21 1 this company consists of mr ind mrs wells the wells company have been doing lyceum work for fifteen bears 5 ears and they come highly recommended not only this int but they aie the highest priced ced entertainment tain ment in ili the course these facts ilone are sufficient to stamp their high quality surely no one can call afford to miss this exceptional numb er 4 it has baeli decided that miss vail johnstone stone is an inhabitant of some other planet because she receives receive phone messages from tars mars so often it was reported that on sunday a signal came that was exceedingly significant what can it mean the students a are re s till still in suspense huspen se is as to the outcome of last weeks examinations ami aini nations some of them wrote volumes and or of cour course e they expect ex thoss to 0 o see an A on those e rep report ort cards that hat the teachers have been struggling with this week on monday lie he students suspense will reach its and the teachers grades will be ie finished for report cards are to be ie given out on that day 0 0 I 1 SOUTH SEVIER HIGH SCHOOL 0 0 patrons of tile the south sevier Us listen ten 1 we are informed that about a dozen representative citizens citizen of the north sevier high school met with the board of education saturday november 11 asking for certain improvements proved prove ments ants for their high school we also understand that representatives of the high school met with the board and were gran granted ted some very much aruch needed improvements in their high school we congratulate 9 rat these citizens on the interest shown by meeting with the board and we have nothing but praise tor for the board for granting these requests but dear patrons stop think are these the only high schools in need of improvements dont you think it timely tor for us to be investigating our own high school and see it our needs are not just as urgent have we ever thought or of the wonderful possibility that our own south levior high school might have an A number one swimming pool if we would but make use of some splendid natural advantages that are at our command if we lets get busy here are a few of the advantages we have which favor a swimming pool we all know that within a very short of our school building the famous monroe hot springs are situated that the water from these springs can bo be had tor for a nominal sum that an excavation has already been made tor for a swimming pool that the pool can be finished and the hot water furnished at a very low cost the big expense of a swimming pool being that of heating beating the water that all up to date high schools have pools in spite of the immense fost cost of heating the water and that the water from these springs will be warm enough to heat tile the building as well as being warm enough for swimming purposes do 3 ou on think we are asking too much patrons when we ask you to give us the benefit of the advantages and help us to make our school even better than it Is will you not get your money back tenfold although you may not get just ten cents for every one cent you invest in this project yet tile the benefit and pleasure derived derived by your children will be rewarded sufficiently to offset by ten or even a hundred times the amount invested this will be so for many reasons first from the standpoint of good health there is no exercise more healthy than swimming it if the pool is established we boys and girls will reap the good effects of this exercise it will also pay from the standpoint of helping your children to the school and helping us to form a better social point of view you cant blame us its for going to other places for amusement if you ell refuse to furnish us |
