| Show THE agricultural YEAR BOOK the agricultural year book tor for 1921 published by the th ed department eda atme nt of agriculture Is oft off the press this year book is entirely different from any previous issue of 0 the department of agriculture the reason for the change in the character of the year book is the belief of secretary wallace that the great problems confronting the farmers today are economic in ill character and should be treated as such in the past about one halt half of the year book was devoted to magazine zine articles on numerous agricultural subjects these articles have not beoh been comprehensive and have dealt with generali generalities the other halt ot of the book has included in general statistical material presented in rather a formal manner in the 1921 book and in those to come the space heretofore given to magazine articles contains worked out studies on the iho economic situation with respect to our chief agricultural products the 1921 book has to do with corn beet beef cattle wheat and cotton th I 1 apal with these crops from tho the standpoint of production marketing nar and distribution and show their relative importance both as I 1 individual n crops and to agriculture in general they have been prepared in a concise and understandable form and are well illustrated with charts and photos much of this statistical material appears in digest form and supplemented by the statistics on marketing and production another special feature of the book is a graphic summary of american agriculture as interpreted from the census figures of 1920 in ili making these changes change in the year book the department of agriculture points out that farmers must give more attention to cheaper pro methods of marketing and so and more improved that the prices the farmer receives shall be more fairly related to tion costs the report of secretary wallace shows the progress of agriculture during 1921 with particular emphasis on the economic phases it contains a brief statement of the work of the department and in d a discussion of the agricultural crisis of 1920 21 definite plans for the 1922 1923 and 1924 year hooks books have just been made committees appointed and subject matter decided upon by the committee in attee in charge together with the 1921 year book the three to follow will complete a four years series of articles each of which will bo be specially prepared and will be a complete treatment of the history and economic status of the subject the 1922 book will include the subjects of swine dairy hay and forage small grains and forestry in 1923 fruits poultry sheep and goats potatoes and truck sugar and tobacco will ivill be treated tho the 1924 book will consider the subjects of horses and mules roads and transportation land utilization credit and insurance land tenure country life and education all requests for the year book should be sent to congressmen who have a fixed quota allowed them the department of agriculture itself is limited to comparatively few copies which are distributed to libraries agrical lulal schools and other like institutions it is therefore impossible tor for the department to supply the bear ear books book cs to the public that can be done through the members of congress |
