Show ' Eloquence of the Budget In a recent syndicated article, r - Calvin Coolidge stated that "the budget is eloquent against war and p gainst government in business." Aside from the post office, thi tax budget totals $3,900,000,000 of which about two-thirds is used to pay for wars, past and present, in the form of debts, maintenance of fc the army and navy and pensions. As Mr. Colidge says, "It pays to be at peace.- However, this war expense would be nothing compared to the sums that would be required once the government went, r.ito business on a large scale. Money now furnished furnish-ed by private investors would be taken from the public treasury. In case of loss which, in the case of private business, is paid entirely by stockholders the people again would pay the bill. Maintain world peace and keep the government out of business and federal taxes, at least, will automatically go down. |
