Show A Sound Program The American Farm Bureau Federation proposes that state legis-r legis-r lature lakes steps to extend roao building operations this winter, pointing out that such, a program, will relieve unemployment, aid in bringing business back to normal and at the same time use public funds to the best advantage. Strong arguments support this. Money can be obtained by states at the lowest rate of interest in years, construction material can be purchased pur-chased at prices far under normal, engineering and other technical talent ta-lent is likewise available at a lower cost and there is a plentiful supply of labor. The time is ripe for unprecedented un-precedented road building activitv. The roads themselves, entirely aside from the influence their- construction con-struction would have in affording employment and distributing mon ey, would do a great work in advancing ad-vancing prosperity. The present farm depression which is related to the industrial depression is contributed con-tributed to by inadequate road transportation facilities. Millions of farmers, during a part of eac. 1 year, find themselves cut off fro 11 f their markets. 1 We have all heard the slogan, I uy now and bring prosperity Lk."- This is a-s true for govern-l govern-l " ments as for individual. - And our ' states can buy nothing of greater value than roads. |
