Show Turkeys Bring j a Half Million ! To Producers The Christmas "gobbler" pool marketed by the Northwest Turkey Tur-key Growers' association totaled nt-arly 100 carloaas or 2,000.00;) ' pounds, accoi cling to announcement announce-ment recently by Clyde C. Edmonds, Ed-monds, general manager. Included in the pool were about 25 carloads or hall million pounds of Utah tuikey produced by some 2,000 Beehive state growers. The entire northvest pool will bring well over $500,000 to the 12,'JOO producers in seven north and west states. Utah's portion will be at least $125,000. Top grade Christmas turkeys shipped Irom Utah and the other states and marketed by the northwest north-west turkey organization will net the producers 8 bout 29 or 30 cents per pound, which is thought to be the highest prices paid this year lor any turkeys in America. The pool, comprising the major portion of . the commercial pro- duolion in Utah, Idaho, Montana, 1 Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Colorado Col-orado and Wyoming, was distributed distribu-ted in metropolitan New York and other markets in the New England states, Chicago, Philadelphia Philadel-phia and several California cities. Average prices " were slightly higher than those received for Thanksgiving Birds. The northwest north-west organization's approximate basis of net settlement to the producers pro-ducers follows: U. S. prime young toms, 30 cents per pound; U. S. prime young hens, 8 cents per pound; U. S. choice young toms 28 cents; U. S. choice young hens, 26 cents: U. S. old toms, 23 cents; U. S. old hens, 23 cents; and U. S. mediums 22 cents per pound. Orfl cial estimate that 75 to 80 per cent of the, pool will grade "prime" and "choice." The final pay checks should be in the hands of the growers by January 10th. Prices paid members of most independent pools in Idaho and other states in this section, were several cents less than those received re-ceived by members of the Northwest North-west Turkey Growers' association. The regional organization's tremendous tre-mendous bargaining power, efficient effi-cient marketing and strict ad-ence ad-ence to regular grading stan- ds are largely responsible for price premiums received by ' at organization, Mr. Edmonds clared. |
