Show Shipments of Clay Started Another industry, which will eventually create a large monthly payroll for this section of the country coun-try and incidentally produce sonu c f the finest quality of clay for aiious uses along the coast, has been announced by John Graham, prominent mining man from Los iiigeles. Mr. Graham, who has been deeply interested in the cla deposits near Redmond and other part of Sanpete and Sevier coun-tic;, coun-tic;, an,! who has frequently visited litre, hr.s taken a five-year lease c:i the p?operties located near Red-mti.d, Red-mti.d, ar.d owned by the Beneficial Benefic-ial Products company, a Utah corporation. cor-poration. Many years ago Joe Blixt located the clay deposits, Known to scientific men as benton-ite, benton-ite, and considerable development v.vik disclosed huge- bodies of the clay outcropping at various places, thus making extraction easy. Mr. Orahar.i h;s taken a lease on' 140 acres cf the land. Tne bentonite, Mr. Graham stated, stat-ed, is extremely high grade and Is in gieat demand in the oil fields along the Pacific coast, and particularly par-ticularly in the fields near Los Angeles. Ti:e chief uses are for an oil wei! rotary and gel and oil v.cH rotary weight, to use as a casing to shut oil gas and water. The clay can be used for various other purposes and experimentations experimenta-tions from . a medical standpoint, and eminent scientists have demonstrated dem-onstrated that, it has wonderful euiative powers. There is a wide oe'r.l for the uses of the clay from the Redmond deposits and eventually, eventu-ally, we hope, will establish a large industiy. Four carloads of the clay have already been shipped to the laboratories labor-atories and grinding plants at Los Ar geles and shipments are to continue. con-tinue. The material is hauled by . tick from the mines located a mile ;nd a half west of Redmond, and iiansported to Salina, where it is leaded in box cars for shipment. A modern and unique loading sys-o sys-o m has been devised at the yards ct Salina. A tramway,, strongly Luilt, allows the truck to back to ihs opening of the cars and then dump, thus eliminating much la-' la-' b: r in handling the clay. Mr. Graham, who has had a wide ! experience in mining, is greatly en- thuseJ over the future outlook in ; ihe mining industry, especially in i the clays, and he has no hesitancy ' in predicting a big future for both j Sanpete and Sevier counties where the clay deposits are found.
