Show No Mystery-There Mystery-There is no mystery in the American Amer-ican high standard of living or in our incomparable wage scales. They are both due to the fact that private inialive in the United States has applied more mechanical power most of it electrical to industrial operations than has been applied anywhere else in the world. Today one American worker produces pro-duces three times as much as the European worker and it is said that our output is twice the combined com-bined output of Great Britain, Germany, Ger-many, Italy and Belgium. Add to this the vastly superior circumstances circum-stances of the American worker as compared with his foreign counterpart. counter-part. Those who are at present ieadm,? the political attack on the electric industry, whether they know it or not, are attacking prosperity and a fundamental American doctrine. It is almost indisputable that had the government controlled electric power pow-er production and distribution 25 years ago the phenomenal industrial indus-trial progress of this century would never have occurred. V it n e s s Europe. No argument can dim the historical fact that most of the great civilizing movements have bten the result, not of politics, but ot the hopes, dreams and ambitious ot private individuals. |
