Show Conflict at Geneva The nations have gathered at Geneva to see if there is a chance to effect satisfactory agreement? relating to disarmament. From France has come a proposed pro-posed international (police force, under the League of Nations. Great Britain, the United States and Italy propose certain definite bans on fighting instrumentalities. instrumentali-ties. Japan, saying little, favors some of these bans and asserts she Is ready to join other nations in disarmament. Before the conference convened it was apparent that the French demand for security would be the rock upon which the parley would split. There is no reason to revise that opinion. For the French security se-curity is not taken to include only the fixation of certain borders, but the guarantee that the French people willhave assurance of bread to eat. It is too early to say that the conference will fail entirely. It is safe to assume that some kind of agreement will be reached, but that it will go deep into the root of the question of armaments is to be doubted. |
