Show Oldroyd Makes Good at The U. Merrill L. Oldroyd of Fountain Green is one of the thirty out of more than one hundred applicants for admission ad-mission to the first year of professional medical work at the University of Utah for the college year 1929-30 who have received the approval of the School of Medicine and will begin their work in October, The School of Medicine wilr- begin the new college year with a new dean and five new faculty n-.embers. Dr. B. I. Burns, professor of anatomy, was appointed dean of the school in June upon the resignation of Dr. Ralph O. Porter who has been dean for the past six years. The new faculty members are Dr. Donald Duncan, assistant professor of anatomy from the University of Minnesota; Min-nesota; Dr. M. S. Sextcn, lecturer in obstetrics from the University of Cin-cinatti; Cin-cinatti; Harold C. Goldthorpe, Ph. D.. associate professor of physiolog'-cai physiolog'-cai chemistry: Dr. Ray J. Leutzker. lecturer in pharacology; and Frank Christrnsen, assistant in bacteriology. Of the students who will make up the roll for the first year of professional profes-sional medical work tnis year, all but one have received the1.- premedical education in Utah colleges. One student is coming from the University cf Pennsylvania. One woman student stu-dent has been accepted for entrance. Before entering the first year ot professional medical work at the University Uni-versity of Utan, a student must have completed at least three years of pre-medical study, including courses in biology, ootany, zoology, chemistry chemis-try physics. Engnsn f.'.d French or German. Psychology, trigonometry, philosophy, economics and Latin are strongly urged also. The professional medical work covers all of the subjects ordinarily included in the so-called scientific or laboratory half (the first two years) of 'he usual us-ual medical course in the better collies col-lies of the United States. Upon the cA-nletion cf his work the student is eligible to enter the junior class m any picdical school in the country. Poetically Poe-tically all of last year's graduates were placed in the school of their fust choice. |
