Show The National Circus Always a prime news center, Washington Wash-ington promises to be as interesting as a three-ring circus for some months o come, even though the destiny of the nation does not exactly hang on the stunts of the national performers. While the general public neither knows nor cares very much about the flexible feature of the tariff or the debenture de-benture plan, the fact that a serious clash over these matters has occurred between the President and the Sen ate will doubtless arouse some popular popu-lar interest. In the field of Senate investigations, investiga-tions, which now embraces practically everything from chain stores to peanut pea-nut prices, it may be that the very multiplicity of things to be investigated investi-gated will tend to minimize the effect of all the commotion so far as the average av-erage voter is concerned. For it mr.y be taken for granted that a lot of investigating in-vestigating is being staged for its c;Tect upon the voter rather than for any other reason. The recent crash in the New York stock market which wiped out hundreds hun-dreds of foolish small speculators must also be investigated, but it won't pt any of the suckers' money back-Maybe back-Maybe it will not be an unmixed evil if some of them have to go to work for e, living. Anyway, it's a great show all around end the big newspapers will have lots (f red-hot front-page stuff for a while. Much of which, as -alwavs, vil! be plain bunk. |
