Show Both clubs lost their opening league game a week ago and need this victory to get back on the state track. These two are big and physical and it's head knocking time. I Braves Set To Knock Heads With East By DAVE WIGHAM Clipper Sports BOUNTIFUL -- It's only the second week of region action so maybe people shouldn't be talking about games as 'must' win situations but to be honest about the thing Bountiful 'better' 'bet-ter' win this week against East. THESE TWO clubs have always staged some of the more physical games seen in the region wars and this year one can expect the same. Throw out the fact that East is 0-4 on the i v V i ' ? 0 .7 A ' f "W? . Consider the teams that have beaten the Leopards, Olympus, West, Davis and Judge. We're talking talk-ing top quality teams here, combined these four are 15-1 andtheonly loss was because two of them played each other. It's true that it's been a few years since the Leopards have knocked off the Braves but every ev-ery game they've played has been close. There is also another difference in this game as compared com-pared with years past. In the past it was generally gener-ally believed that the Braves had the better talent over East but this year the general feeling feel-ing is these two clubs are very close in talent. Both of them have talent. EAST HAS gone to a new look offense, new in the sense that they haven't run it before.. There is nothing new to the single wing, the offense that was run by everyone in past decades, de-cades, but it does create some problems for defenses. Like the famed double wing of Davis the one things that the single wing does is give the defense a completely different look. Bountiful Boun-tiful hasn't played anyone who has played the single wing so their defense better pay attention atten-tion to their coaches this week. The Leopards are getting better each week in running this offense, in which the quarterback lines up like shotgun formation each play. The Leopards are known to have a tough and physical defense under Jay Vesterfelt and this year's bunch are head hunters. These eleven guys live for contact. They proved last week how tough they can be when they held the usually high scoring Davis club to just 14 points. Bountiful will be hard pressed to get points on this club. AS FOR THE Braves they enter the game on a little down note. They played well enough to beat Highland a week ago but they didn't and they'll have to forget that game and concentrate concen-trate on East. One bright spot for the Braves was the fact that they showed last week that their running game was coming back. Kim Peterson has installed a new offensive line and they are starting to jell and backs Spencer Zigich and Chris West found running room against a good Highland defense. Rob Faddis is a good passer and he has some fine receivers in Matt Shelley, Mike Steed and tight end Brett Steineke. All this combination needs is time, to throw and catch. DEFENSIVELY the Braves can still play with the best of them. Kevin Kilburn is using all his energy on defense and it's paying off for the Braves as he seemed to be everywhere a week ago. Zigich returned to the middle linebacker line-backer spot and he was a big factor in the Ram game. Face it folks this is not going to be a high scoring affair. Two reasons for this. First of all both sides have great defensive units that simply simp-ly don't give up points, they may bend a little in the middle of the field but inside the twenty they both get stingy. The second reason is the fact that neither offense has showed that they are capable of scoring a lot of points. SO IF you want wide open offensive style football then this probably isn't the battle to go to. But if you enjoy hard nosed grid action, especially on defense, then come see this one.
