Sir Roger is the type of an English Eng-lish gentleman of the time of Queen Anne (1702-1714), and figures in thirty papers of the Spectator. He is noted for his modesty, generosity and hospitality. hospi-tality. The name Sir Roger de Cover-ley Cover-ley was also given to a dance, similar to the Virginia reel, and supposed to have been the original of it. The title Is derived from the English squire described de-scribed in the Spectator. |
