Coi.j rein pasr.-d the bonus bill with ! a huge majority, and thus aeknow- I ie,V-;-d the nation's debt of honor ml at it u.le due to all the World War veterans. If the people will stop to realize thai duritm the year 1 9 1! H they spent more than twenty times the cost of the bonus for tobacco, and that tho bill, spread over a period of twenty years, will cost the people of the 'nited Slate; only about one half of one per cent of the amount spent for luxuries, they will plainly sej thnt Hie bill will not create much of an additional bu--den. If the war had continued thr?; months longer than it did, this additional ad-ditional three months would have cost our government more than the amount now .required by the bonus bill. When the American boys were over there, sacrificing their lives and their loved ones to protect this wonderful country, with the assistance assist-ance of the people at home, it was all riirht. hut when they ask the American nation to show a little gratitude by passing a bonus bill, some of the people who remained at home, and didn't actually take -part in the war, but made money Instead, start a fuss, saying that the bonus will increase their taxes, and fot that reason should not be passed. ; Taxes have, for the last fifteen' years, been steadily increasing, but not because of the passage of so small a bill as the bonus. The New Zea-landers Zea-landers placed their butter in Xew Vork cheaper than we could ship ours there. These are just a few suggestions for some of our good citizens to ponder pon-der over. , |
