Show Roping Steers Objected Too London, Th-e opening of Tex Austin's international rodeo in the British empire exhibition stadium Saturday, when one of the steers, suffered suf-fered a broken leg while being roped and tied by an American cowboy, was followed by an appeal to Trime Minister Min-ister MacDonald by the Royal Society for the revention of Cruelty to Animals, Ani-mals, "in the name of humanity,'' to forbid the steer roping and wrestling contests. The society applied for a court summons against the promoters. After the accident to the steer on Saturday, Sat-urday, which brought scattering "boos" and cries of "Shame:" from the crowd of 40.000 persons, Austin and his cowboys decided to exclude the roping contest. It was announced, announc-ed, however, that, as the cowboys had traveled 5000 miles to England to compete for money prizes the roping and living contests would be continued contin-ued in the stadium at hours when no audience was present. |
