Seely, Roy L. lalmsten and , j Willis O. Hunter, all formerly of Mt. :j Pleasant, and Orval Cornthwait of i Thistle. i j A patriotic service was held last ' Sunday evening at the Presbyterian :j church. Prof. C. L. Johns spoke on the history of the Red Cross, trae-jing trae-jing it to the self-sacrificing work of Florence Nightingale in th's Crimean ' war,' and showing its works of mercy in times of peace as well as in war. ; Rev. R. B. Norton spoke on "The Church and the War." Ke showed ' that our modern ideals of civt liberty lib-erty had been a growth from very early English efforts at self-government, and that in ail the history of the growth of democracy in America : the Christian church has had a very ! vital part to play. At this masting an 'offering of $23 was made for the National Service comrrtission of the ! Presbyterian church. i |
