Show MOUNT PLEASANT CELEBRATES ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY Mount Pleasant celebrated its fiftieth fif-tieth anniversary of the incorporation incorpora-tion on Wednesday, February 2 0. A patriotic program was given at the Elite Theatre at 2:30 p. m. It was carried out as published in last week's issue of the Pyramid with but few changes. The male quartet won the appreciation appre-ciation of the audience as they furnished fur-nished a number of songs. Mayor Candland paid a glowing tribute to fifteen mayors who have served Mount Pleasant together with the seventy-five councilmen. In all this time he said that there had been no case of dishonesty among any of these men. He also paid a high tribute trib-ute to President Lund and all the other speakers that he introduced. William S. Seely, first mayor of Mt. Pleasant served four terms. Joseph Page served four terms. C. N. Lund, three terms, Abram Johnson two terms, Ferdinand Ericksen two terms and James Monsen, H. C. Beaumann, J. W. Anderson, Daniel Rasmussen, one term. ! The main speaker was President C. N. Lund who related the history and progress of the city during these fifty years. Former mayor J. W. Anderson An-derson brought forth a great applause ap-plause when he stated that he was j proud of Mount Pleasant for having sent the largest number of soldiers 1 of any city in the county to serve j our country. H. C. Beaumann, in his usual humorous way, said that he didn't see how it was that some of the mayors jumped right into the office of-fice of mayor at the first election while he had to begin his political asperations by ringing the curfew. Mayor Beaumann said that his council coun-cil was the first one to confiscate liquor in Mt. Pleasant. R. Anderson Ander-son presented the city with an old record which he had found that contained con-tained the history of Mt. Pleasant for twenty years, from 1868 to 1888. In the evening a dance was enjoyed en-joyed by the citizens which concluded the day's celebration. |
