Show UTAH'S THRIFT DAY. Fifty-two years ago, a band of pioneers pio-neers appeared from a canyon,- and looking down upon a fair valley, the leader cried : "This is the place." In the valley he saw the fulfillment of all the dreams that he "had had, and knew that here could be settled a thrifty people, who would bring forth fruits from the soil, and manufacture the go'ods they may need. Utah may well date things from July 24th, and call it Pioneer Day. And it inay also call It "Thrift Day," for the pioneers were thrifty, saving and industrious. in-dustrious. What we have today in Ctah is the result of the thrift and enterprise of the early pioneers. This lesson the people of Utah are never going to forget and will continue thrifty, and especially encouraging the teaching of thrift in our public schools, and the purchasing of W. S. S where the money will earn Interest, and yet be redeemable at any time, and Jnck Sears' cartoon of this week 13 especially timely and pointed. |
