Show THREE DAYS DEIED Id ENJOYMENT Moroni spent three days celebrating celebrat-ing in honor of their soldier boys who have done service in the U. S. army during the great world war. Beginning Wednesday. July 2 3rd. the people of Moroni started out for' a genuine good tfme and real celebration. cele-bration. There were several horso races at the city park during the afternon of the first day following which a ball game was played bet-ween the Fairview and Moron t teams. Moroni set the pace and led the visiting team in a swift game. The final score was 16 to 1 in favor of Moroni. On Thursday, Pioneer Day, the people turned out in grand parade It was the .greatest show Moroni ever had. Presenting a snirit of early pioneer days the people brought out many unique floats which called to memory the early days of oair forefathers. " Then followed fol-lowed representations of modern industries. in-dustries. In viewing the parade one is led to believa that we are living in the most prosperous and fertile spots in Utah. Many of the foremost industries were represented. represent-ed. Following the morning program races were an exciting feature in the afternoon at the park. There were 2 7 0. automobiles parked near the race track and nearly three thousand people gathered in the burning rays of the sun to see the races and ball game. The races on Wednesday were as follows: Pony race three-eighths of a mile won by Nephi horse in 41 seconds. The prize was $24. The Ephraim horse owned by Chris Jorgensen won a .18 mile race in 39 3-5 seconds. The prize was $25. In a half mile race :he Spencer horse, Black Bird of ludianola won first place in 56 and 2-5 seconds. The Sperry horse of Nephi canm second. A sixty dollar purse was. divided at the ratio of seven and three. 'I hi re was mother half mile race between one jf the Indianola lint-pea and a Nephi horse in which thei Indianola horse came first in 5fi and one-fifth seconds. Wales and Moroni contested a.' fast race for 350 ya.'dr.. Th-3 Moroni horse won in 20 seconds. Then came the ball game. Rich-r field and Moroni crossed hats fiq the big crowd. In the third ln-i nings Richfield scored two ruiiF. Moroni made a run in the rourih: innings and Richfield run in foil;", during the fifth. They scored a-gain a-gain in the seventh. During tin eighth innings Richfield made onej and Moroni two. Richfield scored, one more during the last innings.i The final score was nine to Ihree in. favor of the Sevier county team. In the evening the people trieiL' to dance all night. Friday Gunnison was defeated by the Moroni team bv a score of 18 to 9. Moroni did all she could to mak everyone welcome dairing the three days enjoyment. Hospitality was shown on every side. About $1,000.00 were given away for prizes during the races. |
