Show SCOUT CARAVAN IS CGMINC JULY 1DTH The date for Commencing the Boy Scout caravan to Bryce and Little Zion canyons was fixed at July 10 by Oscar A. Kirkham, scout leader, and the Utah state Automobile Association's Asso-ciation's special committee at the Commercial Club Wednesday after-' noon. Details of the journey were arranged. ar-ranged. It was decided to devote nine days to the trip, allowing the boys to visit in several Southern Utah Cities in addition to seeing the scenic wonders of then two canyons. Fifty automobiles and four trucks will be required by the caravan. These automobiles with drivers will be obtained from individMal owners desirous of seeing that the Boy Scouts have a good time. All Salt Lake people who are intending in-tending to motor to Utah's wonderland wonder-land this summer are invited to accompany ac-company the Boy Scout caravan, and accommodate one or more scouts with passage. Such are also to register re-gister at the automobile association so that advantage may be taken of avery available seat. Drivers of caravan machines may arrange to eat and sleep at the Boy Scout camps to be established at convenient intervals along the route. Eeach group of boys and every camp will be under the direct supervision of scout leaders trained in this feature feat-ure of scouting. At each stop some Boy Scout activity will be featured with campfires, rallies and meetings. The caravan itinerary, as decided at Wednesday's meeting, will be as follows: ; 'Leave Salt iLake before noon Saturday, July 10, and motor 101 miles to Mt. Pleasant, where the first camp will be made; July 11, 72 miles to Richfield and camp; July 12 105 miles to rim of Bryce canyon and camp before sunset, remaining until sunrise, July 13; July 13, drive 85 miles to Ceador City; July 14, 65 miles to Little Zion canyon, where a twenty-four-hour camp will be made; July 15, 60 miles to Saint George; July 16, 108 miles tp Bearer; Bea-rer; July 17, 112 miles to Nephi; July 18, 90 miles and home. The schedule is arranged ineasy stages to allow plenty of time for short stops en route. Through the efforts of the Utah State Automobile association a special repair crew will accompany the caravan to attend to any difficulties that might arise with vehicles on the trip. By securing the use of fifty automobiles, auto-mobiles, the anitomobile association committee expect to transport between be-tween 200 and 300 youngsters gratuitously grat-uitously through the southern part of the state. The caravan idea has attracted wide attention throughout the country, and several cities have requested a detail account of the trip. Dr. Charles G. Plumer, one of the leaders of the Boy Scout Leaders of the state, was in Mount Pleasant Thursday and Friday and made arrangements ar-rangements for their visit here. The Hub Club appointed Capt. S. M. Nielsen, Irvin J3ohne and Lovis A. Peterson to act a' Committee to make arrangements for the reception of the Scouts next July. |
