Determined Deter-mined to win an officer's commission, he enlisted in the army after being beaten in a competition for entrance 'o West Point. Rising through the ranks, he had been an officer a year when his victorious rival was graduated gradu-ated from West Point. Distinguished service in Cuba and the Philippines preceded his present position. |
