Show Wonders of Insect Life. In many ways the structure of in-! in-! sects is wonderful. They are gifted with muscles of extraordinary strength i and are yet destitute of bones to which I those muscles can be attached. They ! possess a circulatory system and are j without a heart. They perform acts involving the exercise of certain mental men-tal qualities and are without a brain, But more remarkable still, they breathe atmospheric air without the aid of lungs. If we take any moderately moder-ately large insect, say a wasp or a hornet, we can see even with the naked eye that a series of small spot-like spot-like marks run along either side of the body. These apparent spots, which are generally IS or 20 in number, are In fact the apertures through which the air is admitted into the system and are usually formed in such a manner that no extraneous matter can by any j possibility find entrance |
