Show THE BOYS' RESERVE. There used to be an unpleasant proverb to the effect that a boy was half a man, two boys were half a boy and three boys were no boy at all, but Uncle Sam thinks better of his boys than that. He is calling on them to register in a Boys' Working Reserve army that, is to help hurry the Hun into his hole, and then tamp It down neatly on top of him and plant corn there. Indiana has 5000 boys on its roll now and Illinois, Missouri, Miss-ouri, Wisconsin, Kansas and Utah have gdod enrollments also. Clubs and churches and schools are being used for enrolling stations, and the cooperation of the various organizations organiza-tions engaged in uplift work has been secured. While many of the boys to be enrolled know a good deal about farm work now, there is much to be learned from those who have made a scientific study of soils and crops and Intensive farming. Moteover, the modern farmers have overcome much of the drudgery that is associated with farm work in most minds, and the boy who lines up for service now may find that there is a stronger lure where green fields wave their banners ban-ners than back of the "white lights" of great cities. There are six million boys between 16 and 21 and their Uncle Samuel ex pects every boy tp do his duty, remembering re-membering that other boys but little lit-tle older are fighting in the- trenches on behalf of liberty. |
