Show SAFETY OF RAILROAD TRAVEL The Union Pacific System Union Pacific Railroad, Oregon Short Line Railroad, Oregon-Washington Rail-y Rail-y . road and Navigation Company is now reaping the benefits of years of consistent effort to promote safety of travel on its lines. Within a period of four years the Union Pacific System fell short of a perfect record for safety safe-ty by only one accident resulting in death. During the past five years $5,000,000 have been expended in installing Automatic Electric Block Signal protection pro-tection on its lines and every mile of the way from Omaha to its western terminals is under this protection. To reduce to a minimum the hazard haz-ard of accident, the Union Pacific System during the past ten years has been drilling its trainmen in the observance ob-servance of danger signals by a system sys-tem of surprise tests, the results of which have been very satisfactory,' 99 per cent of them being successful, and those classed as "failures" were respected sufficiently to have averted accident. f ' Every accident involving a hazard of human life is promptly investigated investigat-ed to determine the cause and to prescribe, pre-scribe, if possible, a remedy against a recurrence. The Result of All This Effort Means Superior Service When You Travel Via the Union Pacific System. Ask any Oregon Short Line Agent regarding rates, and full particulars when you travel east.
