Show CITIZEN SOLDIERY GONE INTO CAMP SIX COMPANIES, A HOSPITAL CORPS AM) HAND AT FORT DOUGLAS WILL MAKE NO MARCHES TRIP TO BRIGHAM CITY WILL BE TAKEN' BY TRAIN; INSTRUCTORS IN-STRUCTORS PRESENT. With tents pitched and inspector-instructors inspector-instructors from the United States army on hand, the annual encampment encamp-ment of the National Guard of Utah began Saturday at Fort Douglas. The tents of the officers and noncommissioned noncommis-sioned officers were pitched Saturday and, with the arrival during the day of Captain W. B. Burtt from San Francisco and of Captain Bigelow from Monterey Saturday afternoon, and the officers and noncommissioned officers of the six companies of tuo battalion from Manti, Ephraim, Mt. Pleasant, Salt Lake and Ogden, everything ev-erything was in readiness for the bugle call Sunday morning. The first four days at the fort were devoted to instruction for officers and noncommissioned officers and the remainder of the week is to be given over to .rifle camp instruction. Wednesday morning the regular militiamen of companies F of Manti, G of Ephraim and D of Mount rieas-ant, rieas-ant, under the. command of Capt. Thomas Braby, together with the First Infantry Band left Sanpete to join in camp at the fort. The soldier Doys trom ugaen and Salt Lake also arrived at the camp Wednesday. SaOurday they will participate in the grand parade, at Salt Lake City given during the celebration of the .Wizard of the Wasatch Carnival and Pioneer Day. GOING TO BRIGHAM Next Sunday the guards will go to Brigham City, where the annual maneuvers will be carried out, the maneuvers ending August 1st. The officers and noncommissioned officers received their first lecture at the first session of the school Sunday Sun-day at 1 o'clock, Major Williams, Captain Burtt and Captain Wallace being the instructors. WILL HE NO REGULARS Five companies of infantry, one of cavalry, a hospital corps and a band are included in the Utah National Guard. The infantry companies are company B of Ogden; company D of Mount Pleasant; company F of Manti, Man-ti, company O of Ephraim; and company com-pany H of Salt Lake. The hospital corps and cavalry troop also are stationed sta-tioned at Salt Lake, while the band in from Mount Pleasant. No regular army IroopB will participate par-ticipate in the maeuvcrs this year and the long marches S'Uch as have been carried out in former years will be eliminated. The guardsmen will use the train both ways between Salt Lake and Brigham City, according accord-ing to plans already laid out. X |
