Ruins and .Hun-deeds .Hun-deeds Sleeping in the Open Quake Accompanied by Tremendous Outburst of Dust. Calexico, Cal. Martial law has been leclared here and in Mexicali, Mexico, just across the border line, following i reign of terror in both towns resulting result-ing from three earthquakes on Tuesday Tues-day Reports of at least fifteen dead and many- injured were brought here by refugees from the Mexican city. Most of the buildings there are in ruins and hundreds are sleeping in the open. The earthquake was accompanied accom-panied by tremendous outbursts of dust. American cavalry regulars are patrolling the streets here. Villa soldiers sol-diers are on duty in Mexicali. Reports received at Los Angeles r.-om the Imperial valley state that two distinct .earthquake shocks were i"elt Tuesday night at Brawley, and as far east as Yuma, Ariz., on the Mexican Mexi-can border. The first shock occurred at 8 o'clock and continued for about a minute. The second shock, an hour later, lasted forty-five seconds. The only damage reported from Brawley is the wrecking of the high school, which was the finest building in the valley. |
