A committee of citizens headed by Representative John H. Speaking for the committee Mr. Garner said: "The constituted Mexican authorities authori-ties are believed by leading business men along the border to be prepared, in the event American troops are landed at Vera Cruz, to make a dash into Texas, and the large bodies of j Mexicans in northern Mexico available for immediate use In case orders are given to attempt to carry out the plan of San Diego would enable the Mexicans Mexi-cans to brush aside the troops at pres-er! pres-er! guarding the border and penetrate a. considerable distance into Texas. Of couse they would be defeated and driven back, but before sufficient American troops could be sent into the border country, the Mexicans would have destroyed valuable American Ameri-can life and property." |
