Near Denver a few days ago the exchange operator saved the lives of half the people in a township by staying at her post of duty at imminent risk of her life. A cloud burst sweep down from the hills and the St. Vrain river was swelled from a measly little stream to a foaming torrent in the brief space of an hour. The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Tele-graph Company's exchange connected connect-ed practically all the inhabitants of the community with the telephone exchange from which the subscribers subscrib-ers received warning of the rush of waters. The exchang operator, Miss Barbara Reinkens, being a true western girl, called up half a score of cowboys, whom she knew would rish their necks for her, and sent them scurrying like modern Paul Reviers, into the byways to warn all who could not bs reached by telephone. tele-phone. Brandon er. tertained Sunday in honor cf Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Hill of Salt Lake City, who are visiting friends and relatives in Mt. Pleasant and Spring City. Mr. and Mrs. Hill were recently recent-ly married, the bride being a former resident of Mount Pleasant, the is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Al-bert Rosenlof of Salt Lake City. Mr. Hill is a prominent fireman of department de-partment No. 5. The young couple are spending their honey moon here and are having a fine time. Tuesday they with others enjoyed a trip up the canyon hunting and gathering berries and pine nuts. Mr. Hill located lo-cated a large'bear track which he followed some distance, but bruin must have known Mr. Hill is a sharp shooter or else he would have found his last resting place. After spe nd-ing nd-ing several hours in the canyon the party returned home to Mr. and Mrs. Brandon, s where a sumptious-sup-per was awaiting the jolly erowd,-where erowd,-where they spent" a pleasant evenieg enjoying their berries, pine nuts, music, games, etc. They will return re-turn to Salt Lake Sept. 29th, where -they will be at home to their friends at 68 Quince St. Friends and relatives rela-tives wish the young couple a happy and prosperous journey throug life. J. H. Lym, who has erected the new transmission lines in this city for the new electric light plant, went to Murray last Wednesday afternoon to figure on another job at that place. He will return to this city next week,. Wallace Petty of the Petty Lud-vickson Lud-vickson Auto Company of Mount Pleasant went to Price on a businass trip last week and returned to this city on Wednesday of this week. |
