Show MEXICAN LEGISLATORS ARE CAUSING HUERTA TROUBLE Liberals and Affiliated Elements Line Up Against Catholic Party Influence Influ-ence in Governmental Affairs. Mexico City Political affairs in Mexico have undergone a marked change in the last few days. The liberal lib-eral party's defiance of -President Huerta in the chamber of deputies Saturday, growing out of opposition to the appointment of Educardo Ta-mariz, Ta-mariz, one of the leaders o the Catholic Cath-olic party, as minister of public instruction, in-struction, appears to have opened the fight squarely on the issue of the Catholic party influence in governmental govern-mental affairs, with the liberals and affiliated elements in congress lined up against it. Rumors regarding the action President Presi-dent Huerta is likely to take went so far as to deal with the possibility of his dissolving congress, to rid himself him-self of opposition from that source, and backing Federico Gamboa, the foreign minister, as his choice for the presidency in the coming elections. Other rumors were 'that General Huerta would bring about a postponement postpone-ment of the elections pending the pacification of the country and would either remain in the presidencyf or retire re-tire in favor of tminister Gamboa. In the face of overwhelming odds against him in the chamber of deputies depu-ties General Huerta said he would consider the withdrawal of the appointment ap-pointment of Tamariz, or might possibly pos-sibly shift him to some other ministry minis-try wiere there would be less antagonism. |
