Show JAPANESE SEEK EXCUSE FOB WAR WITH CHINA , Sounds Great Britain Regarding Her Attitude in Event of Military Action Without Flattering Results. Tokio, China's acceptance of Japan's Jap-an's demands in connection with the the killing of several Jaipanese at Nanking is confined thus far to minor mi-nor points. No answer has been received re-ceived to the demand for an apology for insults directed again the Japanese Jap-anese flag and uniform or to the demand de-mand for the dismissal of General Chang Hsun from the governorship of Kiang Su . province. Before presenting the demands the' Japanese foreign office sounded Great Britain regarding her attitude in event of military action being taken and learned that Great Britain would view it with apprehension, as such action would be likely to encourage the partition par-tition of China among the powers. The British government promised its support sup-port to Japan diplomatically at Peking in the demand for indemnity and an apology but refused to countenance miluary or naval action. Military circles are pressing the government to amend the demands so as to obtain an extension of certain concession and the right to establish a military barracks at Hankow. The premier is urging Prince Yama-gata Yama-gata and Prince Oyama, who are members of the council of marshals, to use their influence to modify the military attitude. |
