Show ASKED ROOT FOR AID. Charges Made That Sulzer Expected Help in Preventing Trial. Albany, N. Y. Governor William E. i Sulzer attempted to obtain the influence influ-ence of United States Senator ElHiu Root and of William Barnes, chairman chair-man of the Republican state committee, com-mittee, to prevent the trial of his impeachment, according to testimony adduced at the trial Monday, although subsequently stricken out by vote of the court. Allen A. Ryan, a son of Thomas Ryan, New York financier, gave the testimony. It was brought out through the testimony of Ignatius V. Mc-Glone, Mc-Glone, secretary of the elder Ryan, that Governor Sulzer was the recipient recipi-ent of a $10,000 cash campaign contribution con-tribution from the Ryans, which was not reported in the governor's sworn campaign statement. |
