Show PROTECT BEEKEEPING INDUSTRY In the issue of the Pyramid No. 10G8 we read a statement from the Vice President of the Utah Bee Keepers Association, J. C. Henager which we heartily indorse relative to the late season and also the increase in colonies. We think the price of honey will be higher this season, but this will not offset the loss in the late season as it costs just as much to harvest a light crop of honey as it does a heavy one. Not long ago a car load of honey cans was unloaded at the depot here in Mount Pleasant and the honey producers received 3,500 five gallon gal-lon cans. If these cans were all filled and sold at seven cents per pound it would bring 14,700.00 which sum would be a very nice amount of money to be distributed among the bee-keepers in this, section. The Bee-Keeping industry is of considerable consid-erable importance and should be protected and a more careful attention at-tention given to it by those who are interested in the business. There are more than 800 colonies of bees represented by the assocat-ion assocat-ion in Mt. Pleasant and there is still room for a few mere bees if properly proper-ly distributed in thier territory. The beekeepers did not organize alone for the purpose of buying and selling but for better protect and care generally. gen-erally. If the 800 colonies were proper ly cared for they would produce more than 60,000 lbs of honey which would bring more than $4,000.00 for our assocation Much could be said of the bee-keeping industry even in its infancy as itis here, but I shall not take up the space in this issue. Wishing all thebee-keep-ers succeess this year so that we can all .help to improve and build onr city. S. N. Gade, President, Mt. Pleasa t Bee-keepers Ass'n. |
