Show Pioneer Woman Reaches 92 Yrs. Oldest Woman Passes Away In Mt. Pleasant Wednesday Mrs. Emeline Seely Barton, 92, oldest resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday of causes incident inci-dent to age. Born in Salt Lake City, April 13, 1851, a daughter of William and Elizabeth DeHart Seely, she was one of the original pioneers to settle Mt. Pleasant. Her father was the first L D S bishop here. Mrs. Barton came to Mt. Pleasant when she was 8 years old. She was an attendant to the queen at the first pioneer days' celebration cele-bration here. On October 29, 1868, she was married to Oscar Barton. They moved to Thistle valley, now known as Indianola, where they resided for four years, until directed by Brigham Young to sell their property to the Indians In-dians and return to Mt. Pleasant. In 1900 they moved to Castle Dale and remained there for two years before again returning to Mount Pleasant. Mr. Barton died February Feb-ruary 9, 1932. A member of the L D S church, Mrs. Barton was an active Relief society visiting teacher and was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Pleas-ant Pioneer and Historical association. as-sociation. ' Survivors include one son, Oscar Os-car Barton, Stirling, Alberta, Canada; Can-ada; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard J. Frandsen, Mt. Pleasant; 23 grandchildren; grand-children; 60 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Monday, Feb. 21st at 2 p. m. in the Mt. Pleasant North ward chapel by O. M. Aldrich, bishop. |
