The City party sponsored a public meeting in the city hall and the following candidates were selected to run for city of-fiees of-fiees in the coming election: !-!-: Mayor, Newton .Donaldson; 4-s" 4-s" field; 2-year councilmen, Lowell year councilman, Cutler Scho-f?c Scho-f?c Hansen, Vance Allred, Max Ir Blain; recorder, Henry Blain; treasurer, Mrs. Enid Baxter. The Democratic party officers of the city are, Lester Acord, Vj chairman; Mrs. Bertha Blain, ' chairwoman; John R. Baxter, secretary and treasurer. Campaign Cam-paign committee, Alfred Neilsen, Curtis Allred and Royal Allred. He; Newton Donaldson, new selectee se-lectee for the' Mayor office has held several public and church t: offices. He is a World War II s a; veteran and spent several C. i: years in the service of our -: country. He was in the ordnance ord-nance department and after entering en-tering service spent many etip months in numerous States. ni- During some of his service in the States and Europe he was a First Lieutenant. In January of 1946 while in Europe he was promoted to the rank of Cap-'i Cap-'i Jain. In the Overseas Service he Mj -was in the following countries: jl England, Scotland, France, Hol-' Hol-' land, Belgium and Germany. Be is now an active officer in the American Legion, post 59, first holding the office of Adjutant Adju-tant and at present is Adjutant and Finance Officer. Prior to his service record he was Sanpete deputy treasurer from 1936 to 1942. He held the city office of recorder for 2 years. 3 In the L. D. S. church his present pres-ent positions are, counselor in the M. I. A. and secretary and treasurer of the Elders Quorum. J Mr. Donaldson is a son of the late David and Jane Donaldson. 3 John T. Blain will be honored by his family and friends for his birthday anniversary, Octo- ber 21. Mr. Blain, better known ' by old and young as John T. I was born in Spring City, October f 21, 1864, of pioneer parents. He ' married Christena Petersen in July 1884. They have reared a family of five daughters, Mrs. Grace Fullmer and Mrs. Ethel . Larsen of this city, Mrs. Blanche ( Willis, Altadena, California, Mrs. Vera Downard of Moab and Mrs. Erma Williams of Salt Lake city. From a very humble beginning be-ginning he succeeded in becoming be-coming one of the most successful success-ful cattlemen in the community and at the same time he was the town's barber, being well known in this capacity throughout the region, continuing in this business busi-ness for 45 years. He then invested in-vested in the grocery business where his aim was to be of the most service to the people. S He served in various capacities capaci-ties in the Church and filled a mission to the Western States. 5 He has spent his entire life of service in this community and "as helped promote many civic enterprises. He retired from business 9 years ago but still is assisting in the ward and city. Continued on Pg. 2 i r j SPRING CITY Spring City continued from pg. 1 Funeral services were held in the ward chapel Friday afternoon after-noon for Mrs. Hannah Johnson, S4, who died in a Salt Lake City hospital of causes incident to ape. Floyd Draper of the ward bishopric presided at the service. The ward choir conducted by Mrs. Geneva Justensen sane; "6 My Father", "Sister Thou Wast Mild and Lovely" and "Beautiful "Beauti-ful Home." Mrs. Olfia Black was accompanist. Mrs. Iva Aiken Aik-en and Mrs. Org a Black saner a vocal duet "In The Garden", accompanied by Miss Yvonne Schofield. The speakers were John S. Blain of this citv and Bishop E. T. Reid of Manti. Interment In-terment was in the city cemetery. ceme-tery. Mrs. Johnson was born February Febru-ary 4, 1SG3 in Spring City, a daughter of Hans Jorgen and Anne Kirsten Hansen. She married mar-ried John P. Johnson. November Novem-ber 22. 1S93 in the Manti temple. Mrs. Johnson was very active in the Sunday School and Primary Pri-mary work. She was a worker in the Manti Temple for twenty years. The only survivor is her husband of Salt Lake citv. Mr. Brigham Y. Allred has returned home from an extended extend-ed visit with his children in Salt Lake City. Teachers Attend U. E. A. The school teachers from this city attending the U. E. A. at Sait Lake C'ty the past week were: Principal Reid H. Allred of the Spring City schools. Principal Prin-cipal Marsden Allred of the Hamilton school, Mrs. Helen Vadsen. Mrs. Eva Erickson, Ar-hif Ar-hif O. Xeilsen. Mrs. Rose Schofield. Scho-field. Mrs. Christie RunnoH. Lowell Hansen. Ernest B. Te-ry Miss Ethel Osborne and Max Blain. Other Salt Lake City vis itors at that time were Mr. Reid H. Allred, Miss Manett Allred, Mrs. Mnrsden Allred. Mrs. Max Blain, Mrs. Ernest B. Terrv -Charlotte Olsen and Lenore All-red. All-red. ... For the first time in many months there is a contagious disease, chicken pox. in this city. The few small children having the disease are reported to.be recovering all right from the disease. Mrs. Herbert Allred of Preston. Pres-ton. Nevada, is at present visiting visit-ing her mother. Mrs. Trena Black who is very ill. Mrs. Black is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I. Beck and suffered this illness two weeks ago. Mrs. Anna Brahy a sister of Mt. Pleasant, visited Mrs. Black Monday at the home of her niece. The ward Primary officers monthly study meeting was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Libbie Allred. president, with counselor. Mrs. Olga Black conducting. The Teachers Training lesion was presented by Mrs. Helen Mad-sen. Mad-sen. Plans were made for the Primary Hallowe'en party and committees were selected. Committees Com-mittees were also selected to canvass for the Children's Friend magazine drive. The remainder re-mainder of the evening was spent in a social and light refreshments re-freshments were served by Mrs. Allred. |
